The arrival of summer is like falling in love. We gather up our happiness as the sun shines and the cycle of fertility brings the flowers into bloom. The garden wraps us all in its glory.

Slowly the earth warms and we have filled the gaps in the borders with cherished plants, which have over wintered in the greenhouse.

Last week was a flurry of activity in preparation for our annual May Antiques Fair. Edging, strimming, weeding, and more weeding. Happily, the sun shone for three days.

Nothing holds a candle to the glorious tree peonies, the flower of the week. They come from China where they have been grown since the fourth century, they like rich, well-drained soil. Their huge flower heads stunning, especially when the sun shines through their silken petals.
